Canon fires out the printers

Canon capped off a busy day of multiple product announcements by unveiling three all-in-one-printers and a new photo printer.

All-in-one printers

The three all-in-one models -- the Canon Pixma MX700 Office, MX310 Office, and MX300 Office -- all feature printing, scanning, copying, and faxing capabilities. The MX700 also features Ethernet connectivity.

The US$199.99 MX700 prints and copies 30 black-and-white pages and 20 colour pages per minute; it prints at resolutions of 4,800-by-1,200 dots-per-inch while scanning photos at 2,400-dpi. Its Ethernet connectivity lets multiple computers connect to the multifunction device.

The $129.99 MX310 also prints at 4,800-by-1,200 colour dpi resolution while scanning at 1,200-dpi. It includes a 30-sheet auto document feeder and prints borderless 4-by-6-inch photos in 46 seconds. It prints and copies 22 black-and-white and 17 colour pages per minute.

The $99.99 MX300 matches the MX310's printing resolution and speeds, but produces 600-dpi scans. At 18.4-by-17.3-by-6.9 inches, it's the smallest of Canon's Office all-in-one offerings.

Photo printer

In addition to the all-in-one models, Canon also announced a new compact photo printer, the Pixma mini320. The inkjet-based printer has a maximum resolution of 9,600-by-2,400 colour dpi for a borderless 4-by-6-inch print; it can output that 4-by-6-inch print in about 40 seconds. Canon says the mini320 can print photo lab-quality images up to 5-by-7-inches.

Canon says users can print photos directly from compatible memory cards, digital cameras or camcorders, Bluetooth devices, and compatible camera phones.

The printer sells for $179.99. An optional battery for portable printing is available for $79.99.
