Sander Dales promoted to Juniper Apac role

Sander Dales has left his locally-based role as head of strategic alliances for Juniper in Australia and New Zealand, to become its vice president of customer services for Asia Pacific.

Dales’ new role is based at the vendor’s Hong Kong regional headquarters. It will involve overseeing several operational teams and a staff of 100 in an area from Japan to India, including Australia and New Zealand.

“My history at Juniper is in account management and sales management. I’ve been in the industry for more than 12 years now and had operational, service management and account management roles. This is the first role I’ve had that puts all those roles together into one.”

His areas of responsibility are post-sales support, education and certification, along with professional services programmes in the service provider and enterprise markets.

In his first few weeks in the role, which began last month, Dales has been meeting key staff and getting to grips with the cultural aspects of the markets he’ll be dealing with.

“I’m trying to understand the market nuances and requirements. There are distinct markets in China alone, before you even get to Asean (Southeast Asia).”

Another area of focus is ensuring the continued growth of Juniper’s online support, for which Dales says it has recently won awards.

According to recently released figures, the vendor’s Asia Pacific second quarter revenue was 23 percent of its global earnings of $665 million, up $28 million for the region over quarter one.

Juniper’s services revenue is also increasing, up 25 percent this year over last. It will be increasing its staff numbers in this area by the end of the year, Dales says.

Dales says Juniper is well known for providing formal career planning and giving staff potential promotion opportunities in line with their areas of interest. Another New Zealander, Andy Miller, is Juniper’s service provider vice president for Asia Pacific and is its former Apac marketing director.

Dales has been at Juniper for nearly four years and before that worked in account management for telco firm Ericsson. He is also a former IT manager for law firm Minter Ellison Rudd Watts.

Juniper has yet to recruit a replacement for his previous position.
