Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 missing on the Mac

Electronic Arts (EA) has released Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, a new version of the popular golf game for multiple platforms. While a Mac version is anticipated, it's not arriving simultaneously with other platform releases as first promised.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 lets players play golf as Tiger Woods and other PGA pros, or as a customised golfer, on real PGA courses including Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill and East Lake. Players can also pretend to be LPGA pros like Annika Sorenstam.

EA notes that game has been made for the Mac along with Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, Windows and PSP platforms, although the Mac is curiously absent from any mention on the game's official Web site.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is one of six titles EA promised to bring to the Mac earlier this year; the company has reportedly shipped four thus far. When EA cofounder Bing Gordon announced Mac publishing plans at WWDC in June, EA indicated that Mac versions of both Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 and Madden NFL 2008 — the popular (American) football game franchise — would be a simultaneous released with other platforms. That proved not be — Madden NFL 08 is shipping for other systems but not for the Mac.

In fact, EA's publishing schedule for all of its Mac titles slipped. Games expected in July ended up shipping in August, and a company spokesperson said that "as EA gains experience in completing and shipping Mac games, the gap will narrow," indicating that both Tiger and Madden will ship for the Mac in "the September/October window."
