Distributor BDT has started shipping F-Secure security software bundled with Microsoft's Windows Home Server operating system.
F-Secure has been selected by Microsoft as the first security vendor for the new server software and
BDT is already receiving a number of orders for thebundled offering, says product manager Blair Carpenter.
“The feedback from home users and our partners has been very positive. We see this as a significant opportunity because many local households now have more than one PC. This is a whole new area and one that I think has been underutilised.”
He says home users run a real risk of losing all their data such as email and photos.
“Very few people run a back up at home and this system, run with a home server, allows people to do just that. Most people now own a digital camera and if those photo files are lost, they are irreplaceable. F-Secure is essential for people who are running the internet all the time as viruses can be picked up online.”
BDT is also distributing F-Secure without the home server bundle.
“It’s just an option for people but F-Secure is reasonably priced as a home user doesn’t want to spend $5000 on protection,” says Carpenter.
The F-Secure software is said to protect against virus and spyware attacks, guards against malware and
includes scanning of hidden malicious software.
