Dual solutions with AMD and Intel quad core platforms

Local distributor Digicor has announced new quad core solutions available on both the AMD Barcelona, officially called Quad-Core Opteron, and Intel Xeon 7300 (previously codenamed Caneland) platforms.

Digicor sales manager Craig Willis says the benefit of offering both AMD and Intel platforms means the channel has a choice. He confirmed that Intel is a more popular platform.

“There is no doubt Intel is a market leader and has been for some time. Until recently AMD had a smaller chunk of the market, but it is an innovative company. What we’re saying is if there are resellers out there who prefer AMD, then they can come to us.”

Both Supermicro and Tyan, two of Digicors’ core vendors, have a range of motherboards and barebones solutions supporting the new quad core processors from AMD and Intel.

Willis says by offering the new solutions Digicor can provide an alternative to the tier one companies such as HP.

“We offer an alternative to the channel through flexibility, support and service nationwide. Digicor is an Australian company, but we have local staff and all our products are built locally.”
