Fortinet is considering opening a local office on the back of appointing a channel manager for New Zealand.
Tim Strachan is based in Sydney with responsibility for developing the unified threat management (UTM) vendor’s channel partner programme in both Australia and New Zealand.
However, according to Fortinet Australia and New Zealand country manager Charles Cote the company is looking at establishing a local presence.
“We’d really like to establish an office, preferably in Auckland, but if the right person was in Wellington we would consider that centre too. A lot of more established companies only have a base in Sydney, but we respect our partners and want to have a local presence.”
Strachan will assist systems integration partners to build their business by offering solutions and managed security services. He joins Fortinet from Lan 1 Australia, where he had been product manager covering data security.
Cote says Strachan has a lot of experience dealing with channels and partners.
“We believe he is the right man to run our recently launched FortiPartner programme, which already has 55 partners in Australia and five in New Zealand. Tim will be coming to New Zealand in October to meet with partners.”
The local partners are Asnet, BTG, Revera, Infinity Solutions and Lan 1.
Strachan also will be actively seeking more local partners, says Cote.
“The good thing about New Zealand is that there are a lot of small to medium-sized enterprises. We are not going to be recruiting a huge number of resellers, but if we can get smaller ones in centres like the Hawkes Bay who can offer our solutions then that would be fantastic.”
The FortiPartner reseller programme aims to provide resellers with sales and marketing programmes, tools, training and support services. The programme is tiered into platinum, gold and silver levels. Cote added that Fortinet has added a level to this programme called MSSP (managed security service partner).
