Cellnet denies reported Synnex acquisition plans

Queensland-based distributor Cellnet has refuted claims in Australian Reseller News (ARN) that Synnex Australia was considering acquiring or merging with it.

In the article, Synnex managing director Kee Ong claims Cellnet’s IT distribution business could tie in well with Synnex’s own.

Cellnet New Zealand general manager John Dunbar says he was informed in an internal staff memo that there was no basis to the claims.

“I was advised by our Australian operation that they have no intention of selling Cellnet and are looking to further steer the company to financial success. The rumours seem to be coming from Synnex Australia.”

The ARN article suggests Cellnet’s business accessories (communications) portfolio was also an area Synnex was looking to expand in.

“Put it this way, our strategy is not limited to Cellnet,” Ong reportedly said. “We’re in the middle of doing a study on which distributors we could potentially partner with.”
