3D-monitor opportunity to target gamers

Local resellers are being sought for a product that its distributor claims is the most exciting piece of display technology ever launched.

Auckland-based Ice AV Technology recently gained sole local and Australian distribution rights to the IZ3D 22-inch widescreen, 3D LCD gaming monitor and is now looking for resellers to take on the product.

“We [are] looking for resellers in the gaming market. There are some key retailers we will be targeting,” says Ice AV managing director Kevin Andreassend.

The monitor is the first of its kind and brings a whole new dimension to games, says Andreassend, adding the company premiered the device at the Armageddon Pulp Expo in Auckland last month.

“This was the first time in the Southern Hemisphere the monitor has been debuted in public. The reaction I kept hearing was ‘This is so cool’.”

Ice AV estimates 70 percent of all games are suitable for use with the 3D monitor.

Because the product is so new, Ice AV is just starting to promote it to the channel, Andreassend says, but he expects a lot of interest.

“It is a truly 3D screen and you have to wear polarised sunglasses to get the true effect.”

But the monitor also has uses outside of gaming, in areas such as 3D mapping, computer imaging and animation, as well as medical and military applications. It can also be used for flight simulation, says Andreassend.

The monitor can be used as a standard computer display and works seamlessly with new operating systems such as Windows Vista, he says.

Ice Av will be handling sales directly for about a month, until channel partners are appointed. Pricing for the unit has not yet been finalised.
