All change at Symantec Asia-Pacific

Symantec's local managing director, David Sykes, and regional channel director, John Donovan, have abruptly left their posts.

A Symantec spokesperson confirmed both had quit effective immediately. In a statement, the vendor said it had made the changes to streamline its Asia-Pacific and Japan business operations so that it can reinvest into other areas of the business.

Sykes is being replaced by the security vendor's Asia-Pacific and Japan senior director of business development, Craig Scroggie. He has been with Symantec since its acquisition of Veritas in 2005.

The vendor has also appointed Cath Hodgson as its new Asia-Pacific and Japan channel director. The Symantec spokesperson said Hodgson would also continue to run its inside sales and renewals business.

Donovan joined Symantec in 1995 as US-based distribution marketing manager, before taking over local channel sales in 1997. He was promoted to A/NZ managing director in 1999 and then appointed to head up channels in Asia-Pacific and Japan in 2005.

Sykes had been with Symantec since 2000, initially as its local sales director. His resume also included stints with CA and Digital Equipment Corporation.

In a statement, Symantec thanked both men for their contributions and wished them all the best.

It hasn't been an easy 12 months for Symantec. At the beginning of this year, the vendor announced it would slice $USS200 million off its expenses balance sheet through job cuts and consolidation in the wake of a poor earnings result.

In its most recent second quarter financial results, Symantec also reported lacklustre enterprise sales and lowered expectations for the next three months.
