Gen-i cracks A$100m contract milestone

Telecom New Zealand's local services arm, Gen-i, is looking togrow its Australian marketshare after reporting A$100m in customer contracts in the past six months.

Ten contracts have been won recently, and the company maintains a number of existing relationships. New customers include the Australian Stock Exchange, Angus Knight, The Heart Foundation, Doubleday, Tattersalls and the NSW Police. Projects ranged from providing Nortel's VoIP platform to the ASX, through to managed services contracts with Porter Davis Homes and applications development with Insurance Australia Group, Metropolitan Ambulance Service, Tarong Energy and Tatteralls.

Gen-i has also re-signed Aon Risk Insurance to deliver telecommunication services across A/NZ. The new 36-month contract covers voice, data and Internet services in Australia and voice, data and mobile services in New Zealand.

Gen-i's Australian head, Steve Quinn, said the substantial growth stemmed from a successful 'gearing up' in the first quarter of the financial year.

He said the integrator had doubled its sales staff to 40.

"Our three main focuses for the year have been in application development, information management and unified communications," Quinn said.

Gen-i will continue to focus on these technology sets for 2008 and target trans-Tasman companies that had a relationship with Telecom in New Zealand, but not Australia, he said.

Telecom NZ also owns Australian telco, AAPT, and communications provider, Powertel.

Quinn said Gen-i would work closely with these partners to help customers apply technology to suit their requirements.
