A racy little number from Acer

Resellers will have to race out of the pit lane to lay their hands on Acer’s latest top-end laptop.

The vendor is bringing only 19 numbered units of its latest Ferrari-branded laptop in to the country, of which one will be auctioned on Trade Me to raise funds for Starship Hospital.

Acer country manager Mark Dalton says distributors Dove Electronics and Ingram Micro will each receive just nine of the top-line Ferrari 1100 laptops. “This is the ultimate, premium laptop and we’re keeping numbers limited to enhance its exclusivity.”

With its black, carbon-fibre chassis, the 12-inch 1100's style is more subdued than earlier Acer Ferrari laptops.

But it remains as racy in performance and design as the car it is styled after, says Dalton. “All its features are top-of-the-line.”

The machine is powered by a 2.3GHz AMD Mobile Turion 63 dual core processor and sports 2GB of DDR2 memory and a 250GB hard drive. It runs the 64-bit edition of Vista Ultimate and is the first Acer Ferrari laptop to include a Dolby Home Theatre sound system.

The Acer Ferrari 1100 ships in a specially-designed box and comes with a wireless mouse, VoIP phone and leather satchel. It retails for $4499.
