Technology firms look set to be well represented again at this year's Small Business Expo, which kicks off in Auckland in April.
Last year IT-related firms accounted for about 60 of the 200 or so exhibitors, and organisers say almost 90 percent of business owners who attended last year said they would return in 2008.
Over 13,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors are expected this year across all three venues – Auckland from 16 to 18 April, Christchurch from 20 to 22 May and Wellington from 25 to 27 June.
The expo also incorporates the Vero Excellence in Business Support Awards, which will be announced at an event on 17 April in Auckland.
Among the award finalists this year are Xero for Businesses Under $5 million Turnover as well as One to Many and MYOB for Large Businesses Over $10 million Turnover, and Connect New Zealand for Not-For-Profits. HP small and medium business marketing manager Warwick Grey is a finalist in the Individual award.
Organiser Sarah Trotman is encouraging businesses to put time aside for the event.
“Most business owners frequently think about growth, retaining customers and improving their business, but many are so caught up in the day-to-day running of their business that they can’t find the time to do it. The Expo fills that gap.
“[The Expo] will provide information that business people can use every day as well as being a showcase for new products and ideas.”
Last May more than 7600 people attended the Auckland Expo, 75 percent of whom were either the business owner or manager.
