ED creates exclusive Sun unit

Express Data has set up a new division to focus solely on Sun Microsystems.

This is the distributor’s first ever distinct division. It was established to help extend Sun’s reach to the broader market beyond the high-end space where it has traditionally focussed, says general manager of sales and marketing Paul Plester.

“The division will be a springboard into the volume Windows server space for Sun.”

Express Data Sun product manager Louis Nunn will head the division, which will comprise nine staff.

He says Sun is becoming more relevant to the wider channel now that it offers Windows and Intel-based servers.

“The lower-end of the market does not know Sun – they see it as the Rolls Royce of servers. This market is pretty untapped – we want to grow it and are taking it very seriously.”
