The Department of Corrections is undertaking a major upgrade of its desktop and laptop infrastructure as part of a programme of modernisation.
It is seeking a vendor to supply PCs and laptops on a two-year contract, with between 500 and 1000 units to be bought up front.
"The overall strategic aim is to improve the availability and quality of information at all levels to assist with the day to day management of Departmental business and evaluate the success of the Department’s interventions, objectives and goals as it seeks to reduce re-offending," says a tender released yesterday.
The PCs will be bought with Windows XP installed, but the document says the use of the operating system may be reviewed shortly.
The department operates around 5,850 desktop devices nationally, comprising 4,034 desktops, 825 notebooks and tablets, and 991 Wyse terminals. Of the desktops, 1,085 are hybrid devices with local applications and 4,765 operate as a thin client Citrix terminal running only an ICA client. The department is also seeking to buy printers and multifunction devices, also on a two-year contract, in a separate tender.
