Casement to enhance profile for Renaissance

Renaissance has turned to a former publisher to help it lift its marketing and communications game.

The distributor has appointed Doug Casement, former managing editor and publisher of Computerworld and publisher of CIO magazine, as its new group marketing manager.

Casement, who joins Renaissance on June 16, spent 14 years as a technology journalist with IDG Communications and has been manager of research firm IDC’s IT management programme since 2006.

Renaissance has always been at the forefront of value-added ICT distribution and now needs to “lift the game” in how it communicates with end-users, says Casement.

He adds he plans to apply the same principles he did as a journalist to the new role. “I can’t see a reason why the same principles of directness, honesty and accuracy should not be used elsewhere.”

Casement will be responsible for developing marketing and communication strategies across Renaissance’s different business units, including Renaissance Brands, Magnum Mac, Natcoll and Insite Technology.

“I will be working with the general managers of each of the business units at Renaissance, figuring out with them what they need to best do their jobs. Renaissance has been growing so quickly that it is now at the level that it actually needs to have that overall group strategy.”

Renaissance managing director Paul Johnston says Casement’s previous experience in the IT industry made him the ideal candidate for the new position. “We want to become even better at simply and directly communicating what we have to offer and how we can best help our customers. As one of the industry’s more experienced observers and commentators, we believe Casement is well placed to help us do that.”
