Logitech gets into surveillance

In a move that will interest small businesses, Logitech is to release its first wireless video security system locally in October. The company's first two video-security cameras are available as starter packs or add-on cameras. They include the Logitech Indoor Video Security Master System, the Logitech Outdoor Video Security Master System, the Logitech Indoor Add-On Camera and the Logitech Outdoor Add-On Camera. According to a statement, the system requires no additional wiring as it uses Logitech's HomePlug technology that connects and transmits video data over an existing electrical wiring. The vendor claims it only takes three simple steps to secure a small business or home: install the Logitech Command Centre PC software, connect a USB receiver and plug in the camera.

Once the camera is installed the owner can watch live video or review recorded video. The cameras detect motion and record video directly to a PC hard drive for easy playback and archiving.

The products are distributed by Synnex and Ingram Micro. The Logitech Indoor Video Security master system and the Outdoor Video security master system will cost $549.90. For the Indoor Add-On Camera and the Outdoor Add-On Camera the retail price is $449.90.
