With a week still to go before entries to the 2008 IBM Business Partner Awards close on 26 September, around four times the number of entry forms have been downloaded compared with last year’s event.
But according to Reseller News associate publisher Bill Bennett, who is chairing this year’s judging panel, not all of the would-be entrants have proved to be eligible.
So far the rejected entries have included a substantial Egypt-based IBM reseller operation with no connection with New Zealand whatsoever, and an Alabama-based teenager who is “clearly the next Bill Gates.”
“Well at least his mum said so when she answered the phone,” says Bennett.
Bennett says that early feedback has suggested that some entrants are spending too much time on the wording of their entries.
“But it’s not about style, it’s not about grammar,” says Bennett. “We just need basic information on the forms, so bullet points will do just fine.”
Four new categories have been introduced to Awards this year, to better reflect the full scope of the work being done by the channel. Along with recognition, prestige and publicity, winners will receive an advertising package worth up to $5,000.
Judges will recognise and reward excellence in the following areas:
- Rookie of the Year (NEW)
- Best Energy-Efficient Solution (NEW)
- People's Choice Reseller Award (NEW)
- Best Co-Marketing Campaign (NEW)
- Workplace Collaboration
- Information Management
- Infrastructure Optimisation
- Best Built-on-Express Solution
- Best Growth-Driven Business Solution
- Best Non-IBM Business Partner Solution
In addition to these categories, there is also a Supreme Award acknowledging excellence across all solution delivery categories.
