Charlesworth takes Shore honour

Comworth founder and managing director David Charlesworth has been inducted into the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence awards hall of fame.

According to Terry Hoskins, Enterprise North Shore chief executive, Charlesworth is a well-known and well-regarded businessman and resident of Auckland’s North Shore, who has been a “tireless worker” for the community for decades.

He says Charlesworth deserves the honour as he is recognised not only for his business activities, but also for his community work that has included involvement in school committees, boards, the church, Plunket, service clubs and sailing.

Charlesworth and his wife Bronwen set up Comworth Systems in 1983, representing Oki Electric. The company has since expanded into a group of four main companies, including Oki distributor Comworth Systems and telephony systems provider Agile, which developed software for communications technology vendor Avaya that is used in call centres around the world.

The Comworth group now employs more than 150 people nationwide, with offices in Auckland, Lower Hutt and Christchurch.

Meanwhile, Charlesworth is also a director of several companies, as well as at the New Zealand National Maritime Museum.

A keen yachtsman, he is a past Commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and is currently the squadron’s representative on the International Council of Yacht Clubs.

Charlesworth says he is deeply honoured to become a North Shore Business Hall of Fame laureate. “When you look over the list of names that have been inducted, it’s a ‘who’s who’ of North Shore business excellence. I am extremely proud and humbled to have my name added this year.”

The Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence awards hall of fame was established in 2004.
