Freeview to add Chinese channel

Digital platform Freeview will add Chinese TV8, broadcast mainly in Mandarin, early next month.

The channel’s content includes news and current affairs from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, drama, documentaries and infotainment.

Freeview general manager Steve Browning expects strong demand for the content, saying there are about 150,000 ethnic Chinese in New Zealand, of which nearly 75 percent live in greater Auckland.

Freeview was launched in April and is now available in 75 percent of New Zealand homes.
