NEC set to debut netbook

NEC is weighing into the increasingly crowded netbook space with its Windows XP-based Versa N1100.

With an 8.9 inch screen and weighing 1.17 kg with the battery in, the model is finished in piano black with a white keyboard.

The unit is powered by Intel’s Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor, and like many other products in this class run on Windows XP Home edition with Service Pack 2.

The N1100 offers 1 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive and supports b and g wireless and gigabit ethernet.

NEC has revamped the touch pad with its new 'NX Pad' with gesture functionality.

In addition, the unit is rated to withstand up to 150 kilogram-force of pressure.

The N1100 is set for local release in mid-November, with an expected price of $749 and will be available through local distributor Renaissance.
