Two redundancies at Symantec NZ

Two New Zealand employees are among those to feel the effects of global cost-cutting at Symantec. The cuts are expected to result in as many as 40 redundancies in Australia.

Long-serving security pre-sales engineer Roger Mallon has left the company, along with client solutions manager Rebecca Morris. Mallon was the company’s only Auckland-based engineer.

In late October the company announced planned layoffs that would cut its workforce budget by 4.5 percent worldwide, in order to align costs with revenue expectations. “While the fundamentals of the company are strong and its business strategy sound, the workforce reductions are intended to maintain operational flexibility,” the company said at the time.

When New Zealand channel sales manager Simone Rose left the company abruptly back in February, Symantec did not replace her.

The company would not comment on the reason for the New Zealand employees’ departure or confirm redundancy numbers for its Australian operation.
