Tech CEOs: reward to recruit

Chief executives Reseller News has spoken to, say they have reward schemes in place to encourage staff to recommend their firms to friends and families based locally and those overseas. In some cases successful hires result in generous payments.

Fronde CEO Ian Clarke says his company offers incentives to help counter the skills shortage. “We run an internal ‘Good People Award’ where we make quite a substantial payment. Firstly, we reward those staff who introduce new people we take to interview,” he says. “We buy dinner for them and their partner, and then if we subsequently hire someone we make quite a substantial cash payment to them.”

Gary Langford, chief executive officer of Eagle Technology, says the skills shortage is still a problem and that it has been particularly difficult to find staff in Wellington. “We tap into our networks internationally, and a lot of our staff come from friends working in a similar industry overseas. We have a system that rewards staff. If they put somebody’s name up and that person is successfully employed, then we’ll pay a bonus.”
