CA has supported the Computers in Homes initiative for a second year, this time funding computers, training and internet access for 14 families of pupils at Jean Batten Primary School in the Auckland suburb of Mangere.
Last year it did the same to benefit 15 families at Huntly Primary School.
Instead of merely gifting machines to families, the programme gives parents 20 hours of computer training designed to involve them in their children’s learning, as well as increasing their own employment opportunities.
Computers in Homes’ national coordinator Di Das says she hopes the Mangere families’ recent ‘graduation ceremony’, attended by Labour MP Su’a Sio, mayor Len Brown and CA’s Richard Hackett, will encourage the Government and businesses to give more funding.
