Google will not be hiring to replace New Zealand country manager Rachael Cotton-Bronte, who left the company at the end of November 2008.
Annie Baxter, Google public relations manager for Australia and New Zealand, says there are no plans to change the company’s local organisational structure. “We’ve got the team on the ground focused on Adwords sales, and a team – some of them based in Sydney and some in other parts of Asia – looking at bringing on board enterprise customers.”
Quizzed about total staff numbers locally, Baxter would only say that most of the company’s team here was recruited to work on Google Adwords. “We’ve got a small team. We don’t really talk specifically about how many.”
Google’s initiatives for 2009 – including its recently announced plans to recruit “an army” of resellers to sell and support its Google Apps Premier Edition – will be driven out of Australia and Asia, says Baxter. However, Richard Suhr, Google’s head of enterprise for A/NZ and South-East Asia, is a Wellington-based Kiwi, she points out.
