Ports of Auckland bins ageing PABX system

In a bid to streamline its phone systems, the Ports of Auckland is tendering for a digital replacement. According to request for proposal documents released this week, the existing infrastructure spans 25 years of implementations and as a result uses a wide range of installation methods, including soldering of connections through to fibre optics.

The company claims the site makeup is unique, as it is spread along the Auckland waterfront as well as in Onehunga and Manukau. Ports of Auckland is required to maintain 98 percent uptime during an eight hour shift and it runs a 24/7 operation, so system reliability is vital.

The deadline for replies is Friday 20 February. More details are available on the Government Electronic Tenders website under ICCNZ reference 24801.
