Marshal 8e6 adds Avinti

Web and email security vendor Marshal8e6 has acquired Avinti, which produces behaviour-based malware detection technology.

Avinti’s technology is used to detect blended security threats, which use active malware or embed URLs in email to links users to sites where malware downloads in the background. Such attacks can fail to be detected by anti-virus products which look for malware as email attachments, or by web filters focusing on content rather than viruses or spyware.

Marshal 8e6 will merge Avinti’s technology into its email and web security product portfolio.

“The increasing emergence of blended threats requires advanced threat detection and analysis, along with a holistic approach to looking at threats across an organisation’s inbound and outbound channels,” said William Kilmer, CEO of Avinti. “Marshal8e6 has positioned itself to be the one stop shop for integrated enterprise-class blended threat protection.”

Marshal8e6 will retain a development center in Avinti’s Utah-based office to focus on integrating elements of Avinti’s behavior-based malware detection into Marshal8e6 products.
