AVG distributor posts sales, staff growth

AVG (AU/NZ), which distributes the security vendor’s products in ANZ and the South Pacific, says its sales revenue grew 63 percent for its 2008/2009 financial year, according to preliminary figures.

Its sales reveue for the first quarter of 2009 doubled over the same period in 2008, says managing director Peter Cameron, adding it has achieved “many months of record sales” in the last financial year.

Vendor AVG offers a free version of its security software, along with paid versions. ANZ managing director Peter Cameron says the strategy of seeding the market with the free product and encouraging users to upgrade is successful.

“[It] has allowed us to build high brand awareness and substantial market share.”

The distributor focuses strongly on consumers and small and medium businesses, and tailors its pricing and offerings for these markets, says Cameron.

AVG (AU/NZ) says consumers implement its products at home and then begin to use them in their small businesses too.

It has also noticed a trend toward customers buying premium AVG Internet security integrated suite rather than the base version of the product, Cameron says.

The distributor has added seven staff in the region in the past three months.
