Ditch the old PC on eDay

f you’re hoarding old IT equipment, eDay is the chance to safely get rid of it.

The nationwide event, organised by Computer Access New Zealand (CANZ), aims to divert over 1000 tonnes of electronic waste from landfills.

This year’s collection will take place on Saturday, September 12. Forty regions are taking part, an increase from 31 in 2008.

eDay event organiser and CANZ chairperson Laurence Zwimpfer says the passing into legislation of the Waste Minimisation Act in September 2008 was an important step forward in developing a long term plan.

“But it could take another three years before e-waste schemes are fully operational. We are pleased to announce another eDay to ensure that hazardous and scarce materials are not buried in our landfills in the interim.”

Event updates will be posted on the eDay website as venue details and school drop-off centres are confirmed in each area.
