Samsung Australia cuts GM of retail sales

Samsung Electronics Australia has announced a major restructuring of its sales and marketing teams. As a result, general manager of retail sales, Mark Beard, has been made redundant.

The former director of sales, Michael Richardson, has become director of retail sales and marketing while the former business unit manager for notebooks, Emmauele Silanesu, has been promoted to national product and marketing manager for IT.

“We recognise the significant contribution and commitment that Mark Beard has provided to Samsung Australia over the last decade and wish him all the best for the future,” Samsung managing director, K.Y. Choi said.

Beard’s dismissal comes despite the vendor recently reporting its highest quarterly net profit in two years amid the doom and gloom of the global financial crisis.

Samsung used the statement to talk up its performance, claiming “continuing strong YTD results”.

“Samsung Electronics Australia has achieved ongoing growth in sales and market share over the past two years, reinforcing its position as a leading consumer electronics brand,” the release said.

A Samsung spokesperson said the company would not comment beyond its media release.
