Crabb swaps Network Pro for Distribution Central

Crabb swaps Network Pro for Distribution Central

Former Network Pro Northern Region branch manager Richard Crabb has taken up the mantle of Distribution Central country manager. As reported by Reseller News on August 21, the company had been looking for a replacement for Trevor Holland who was forced to step down after suffering a serious spinal injury 18 months ago, with ongoing back problems during his rehabilitation.

Crabb has spent the past two years at Network Pro and prior to that was Edtech’s sales manager of network services.

He also ran his own company Cablelinks, which was acquired by Tech Pacific (now Ingram Micro), and worked for the distributor for three years before leaving in late 2004 to become general manager at Expert Solution Providers.

Crabb started his role on September 1 and is “chafing at the bit” to meet resellers.

“Distribution Central have all the expertise and experience to build a successful business in Australasia. My attraction is that I have had six years within reseller land and before that I was in distribution within Tech Pacific. It is a natural step for me to go back into distribution, but at a country manager level.

“I hold relationships with many of the key business partners out there.”

Network Pro director Ron van Twuiver says a replacement has been selected but wouldn’t yet name the person.

“I want it [the appointment] 100 percent confirmed first. We will be working with Distribution Central so the relationship with Richard Crabb won’t end. I think it is a good opportunity for both companies.”

Distribution Central ANZ sales and marketing director Nick Verykios says Crabb was selected from nine candidates due to his entrepreneurial skills and distribution experience.

“He understands us, our business and why we operate. It was very important that he had that background in distribution. What we find in New Zealand is that people who are successful in distribution tend to have a career mixed between [reselling] and [distribution].”

He says all nine candidates were right for the role and it was a difficult decision to make.

Crabb will spend a week in Australia meeting with the company’s vendors.

After that Crabb’s first priority will be to meet the local resellers, says Verykios.

“He has a good name out there [with the resellers] and will be meeting resellers full-time when he gets back to New Zealand. He will be looking for good people to backfill as we launch new products and do more with the ones we have got.”

Holland, who helped select Crabb, will do a handover before leaving. Verykios says the door is open for his return. “When he can move around and be productive we hope that the first call he makes is to us.”

Holland had been with the company for two and a half years since it launched into the local market. Prior to joining Distribution Central he worked at Critchlow.
