Leaupepe steps up to replace Gould as Insite BDM

Jaynean Leaupepe’s promotion to Insite Technology business development manager (BDM) brings her a fresh challenge with a move into the system building space.

Leaupepe previously developed the NEC brand for the Renaissance group, which owns Insite. However, when NEC closed its ANZ retail arm in March this year, she became a BDM for Renaissance’s networking and security brands division.

She replaces John Gould, who stepped down earlier this month. Gould had been the BDM since mid-2006 when Insite acquired Ultra Computers.

Leaupepe started with the PC assembler on Monday this week and says the prospect of working with a wide group of resellers in the PC assembly space attracted her to the role.

“I want to promote and develop the Insite brand in Auckland and get more of the PC market [share]. Because of the recession, customers want more for less and know Insite will be a good brand to go to for their IT spend.”

She also plans to build her customer portfolio and capitalise on the relationships with resellers established during her time in other roles at Renaissance Group.

Leaupepe has been at Renaissance since July 2007. She previously worked at EDS as a product manager from September 2005 to July 2007 and prior to that was a Gen-i account manager for six and a half years. She started in the IT industry as a sales coordinator at Toshiba in 1997.

“I’ve been on the reseller side, the vendor side and the distributor side. PC assembly will be a new one for me,” she says.

Renaissance has not yet found a replacement for her. Leaupepe will be based at Insite’s office in Onehunga at the same building as owner Renaissance.

Gould finished at Insite at the beginning of this month, having worked on contract there since mid-2006 when the Christchurch firm acquired his computer assembly company Ultra Computers.

On his departure and the cusp of a holiday in Fiji, he didn’t rule out a return to the IT industry. “I’ll be having a good break, but I’m not sure retirement is the right word because no one really retires these days. It may be a little bit early for me,” he said at the time.

He started his IT career in 1988 with Imagineering, the precursor to Tech Pacific, which was acquired by Ingram Micro in late 2004.

Gould set up Ultra Computers with Mark Forbes, now a SnapperNet director, in 1992.

Insite used the 2006 acquisition of Ultra to establish a presence in Auckland. At the time, general manager Jan Paterson said there was a good fit between the two companies. “We both mostly supply to the reseller market, we’re both aiming at the quality part of the market, we both assemble notebooks, desktops and servers and not everyone does all three, and we’re both ISO [International Organisation for Standardisation] accredited and Intel Premium Providers.”
