Preston dives into channel activity at Symantec

Stuart Preston says his entry as national sales manager comes at a time when the vendor is busy with channel initiatives.

Among the programmes currently underway or on the horizon are a technology briefing later this month on data centre optimisation, enterprise security and compliance and sustainable IT, for partners and customers.

In addition, the security vendor is promoting its alliance partnership with VMware by offering eligible partners additional rebates for selling particular Symantec products with a VMware license.

“I have been meeting with our partners and the feedback has been very good,” says Preston. “In general, our partners are pleased to see Symantec investing in channel programs and activities in the local market.

The former CA country and channel manager joined Symantec after spending a year in a senior sales role at Oracle.

He says he was attracted to the role because he is interested in systems management, and because it has a “channel friendly” approach.

“There’s been ongoing debate over the need to increase the productivity of New Zealand businesses. The systems management solution Symantec sells enables customers to automate, measure and manage their IT systems to increase productivity.

“I also like the Symantec go to market model, in particular Symantec’s channel friendly approach to partners and I like the people at Symantec.”

Preston says his key priorities are driving sales and building deeper relationships with the vendor’s enterprise customers locally. He heads the enterprise sales team here.
