Renaissance Brands secures new business development manager

Former Alcatel Lucent internet product division representative Andrew Wood has joined Renaissance Brands as a business development manager (BDM).

Renaissance Brands general manager Kevin Swainson says Wood will be looking after firewall company Palo Alto Networks, which it recently signed, and IP traffic optimisation vendor Allot.

He will be based in the Auckland office and charged with building a customer base for the two brands. Eighty percent of Wood’s time will be spent on the Allot agency and the remaining 20 percent on Palo Alto Networks, Swainson says.

Wood was attracted to the role because of his ongoing interest in security and networks.

“They’re products that I have some familiarity [with], and history [in]. I’m interested in expanding that brand range and looking at the gaps where we can bring fuller solutions to the table.”

He is looking forward to travelling around the country to meet with Renaissance Brands’ local resellers in the coming weeks.

Wood is a veteran of the IT industry, with 15 years’ experience. He worked at network protection specialist company Esphion from 2000 to 2006, with his last role there being vice president of engineering.

Esphion was acquired by Allot in January 2008. Swainson adds Renaissance Brands recently signed a partnership with Palo Alto Networks to increase the vendor’s reach in the networking and firewall security areas.

No other local distributor has yet been appointed.

“The Palo Alto Networks approach enables customers to see and control applications, users and content – not just ports, IP addresses and protocols.

“Resellers will benefit from the product line and we can assist them by providing training and evaluation support,” he says.
