MOE to upgrade internet gateway services

The Ministry of Education (MOE) is after a new supplier as its email and web gateway maintenance contract expires next year. Manufacturer support for components of the system will end in December 2009.

According to tender documents released this week, its present systems can’t cope with email volumes and use of the internet by Ministry staff. Traffic volume is causing the internet access performance to slow down. The present gateway service offering has been in place since 2000 and uses technology dating back before this time.

The present services include email gateway Mimesweeper, Seemail gateway, web-sweeping and web proxy server.

Due to approaching capacity limits, the Ministry is interested in outsourcing gateway services. It also wants to reduce the burden of managing infrastructure and concentrate on developing and enforcing security policies, lowering risk, and improving business continuance.

The deadline for replies is Wednesday, December 9. More details are available on the Government Electronic Tenders website under ICCNZ reference 28082.
