Cisco has almost entirely phased out Linksys branding for its commercial products in New Zealand, however the name will stay in the retail side of its business.
SMB market manager Kris Boyd says the repackaging of products under the Cisco Small Business and Small Business Pro brands is “pretty much done now”.
However, he says products such as home routers and the Flip Mino still fall within the Linksys part of Cisco’s local business, headed by Kristy Weaver. Cisco bought Linksys in 2004 and used the interim brand Linksys by Cisco.
Boyd detailed the streamlined Cisco Small Business product set at the recent Breakfast Club six monthly partner update, attended by about 120 people in Auckland recently.
The vendor also plans to relaunch its Makeover initiative next year with two competitions instead of one. For the last two years it has given a small business with up to about 50 staff the chance to win a ‘technology makeover’ with Cisco gear integrated by a Cisco partner. This year it is set to add a competition for mid-size firms with between 250 and 500 seats, says Boyd. The second competition could focus on a particular technology area, he says.
