Simms International has announced its first local vendor partner - Dell - and the companies will soon begin recruiting authorised partners.
Simms will offer the full range of Vostro PCs, Dell's line targeted at small and medium businesses, as well as servers and peripherals such as projectors. However, it will also have access to Dell storage and networking products as customers require.
"Dell has been putting a lot of resource into New Zealand with new hires and they want to concentrate on delivering a much better experience for the SMB market," says Simms' managing director Paul Johnston. "That includes the partners that deal with that segment."
The distributor will work with Dell to bring authorised resellers on board, however these won't necessarily be members of the Partner Direct programme which was launched here last year, says Johnston.
"It won't be open slather. We don't have a number [of partners] in mind, we're looking at the quality." He says the two companies already have in mind some companies they could partner with.
Simms established an Auckland office, its third internationally, last month. Johnston is the former managing director of distributor Renaissance.
Dell NZ country manager Mike Hill says the move complements its PartnerDirect programme.
"This further highlights our desire to put Dell representatives closer to New Zealand customers. Dell has more staff locally than ever before and we will continue to invest in New Zealand to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers."
