Datamine Auckland becomes new hub for Australasia

An increase in staff and the desire to establish an Australasian business hub prompted data analytics company Datamine to move its Auckland operation.

Managing director Sonya Crosby says the company outgrew its premises in Parnell and has moved to the refurbished railway building The Signal Box on the Strand in the same suburb.

“We do a lot of brainstorming and working on client projects so we needed an environment that would help that process. Moving to this space has improved team dynamics.”

Crosby says the hub model will allow it to gain access to the best combination of skill sets held by overseas staff, to overcome any data challenge businesses face. Datamine has offices in Wellington, Australia, Singapore and the UK.

The company helps partners, including SAS locally, to gain a better understanding of company data and create business intelligence forecasts.

“We think we can do the majority of the work out of Auckland. The neat thing about working in this business is you can transfer data between countries easily and operate anywhere in the world.”

Eight staff were hired in the areas of computer science, business consulting and technical support, bringing total numbers to 21. There are plans to bring on another 10 staff over the next two years.

The company wants to make Auckland its global office and has obtained a lease of up to 36 years on the new site.
