Eagle stages trade show to meet vendor demand

Eagle Technology says its upcoming Talk and Chalk day, the first of its kind for the company, is designed to be similar to the Ingram Micro showcase and Datastor Forum.

The show is an effort to educate its customers about security, networks, storage and related IT infrastructure. Enterprise solutions manager Mike Cribbens says each booth will have a whiteboard so vendors can write down what they are talking about during conversations with customers.

“In a lot of cases our clients aren’t fully aware of the tools and solutions that are out there. A few years back you could go along to all the IT shows, get the vendors in one room and target the ones you were interested in,” he says. “We don’t have those days anymore, so after talking with vendors there was a sentiment that we should do something.”

Cribbens says the event provides for information gathering, so customers can hear from competing vendors about the same technologies.

“The theme of the discussions will be around roadmaps and what products they see going forward to address those issues. It’s not about product sell but about issues such as storage trends,” he says.

Eighteen speakers from Eagle’s vendor list will take part in the event, including Barracuda, Imperva and Green Plum.

Eagle has sent invitations to more than 1000 businesses in the Auckland area, but Cribbens says he doesn’t have a target number of attendees in mind.

The company wants to make Talk and Chalk an annual event. “It’s focused around infrastructure and these days infrastructure encompasses a broad spectrum of the industry from networking to security.”

Cribbens says that holding the event in February means Eagle has a head start on other events.

“The thought was if we got in early in the year people will remember us.”

Talk and Chalk takes place at the Alexandra Park Events centre in Auckland on Thursday, February 25.
