VMware ANZ channel director quits abruptly

VMware's trans-Tasman channel director Fred King has quit the virtualisation vendor after less than 12 months in the role.

VMware ANZ vice-president Paul Harapin confirmed King left the company last week and said it was now looking externally for a replacement senior channels manager.

He would not be drawn on the reasons behind King’s departure, nor comment on rumours that the pair had argued prior to his abrupt exit.

Sources close to VMware noted King’s surprise absence during the vendor’s Partner Exchange event in Sydney last week.

“We’re looking outside the company, but will build over the next few years to ensure we have succession plans in place,” Harapin says. “We have the right people [internally], they’re just not at that level today.

“If anyone is interested, they should contact us.”

Harapin said he wished King all the best in his future endeavours. King joined VMware in August last year after former partner director David Blackman resigned to pursue opportunities in the UK. King was technology and alliances manager at Oracle for five years, and also held various executive and director roles with Hyperion, SalesDzine, Crystal Decisions, Seagate Software and Digital Equipment Corporation.

ARN has placed calls with King for comment.
