The Department of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development and a number of other agencies are working together to consolidate the procurement of common ICT infrastructure.
This will include shared data centre hosting services, virtual multi-tier storage services; and virtualised server services.
According to tender documents, most public sector agencies use similar services for their core ICT infrastructure requirements. Despite the similarity in service requirements, there is very little sharing or collaboration among the agencies. This leads to high levels of duplication including design, procurement, supply contracts, technology and infrastructure.
The agencies are after a supplier who can provide infrastructure management, transition, billing and reporting.
For security reasons, the data centres and associated services would need to be based in New Zealand.
