Sydney outage crashes Ingram website

Ingram Micro's website went down for several hours yesterday afternoon, attributed to a power outage in the region of Sydney near one of its datacentres.

The incident follows earlier problems with instability and slowness caused by the change to a new website system and a variety of difficulties encountered by partners trying to use the site.

However, managing director Gary Bigwood says the latest problem is unrelated.

"The generator and UPSs kicked in but when the power came back on, although there was good security and redundancy in place, some equipment was damaged."

Bigwood says the incident forced an urgent rebuild of the storage array to fix the problem last night.

He says it will hold a full debrief to avoid a repeat of the problem.
