HDS prepares to provide storage services

Hitachi Data Systems is gearing up to provide installation and maintenance services in New Zealand.

The move comes in the wake of Oracle’s decision to cease OEM arrangements for Hitachi’s high-end storage systems.

Previously, Sun Microsystems provided the Hitachi product on an OEM basis.

“We’ve begun the recruitment process for an engineer,” says Hitachi Data Systems sales manager Paul Lewer, who joined the company in April after previously managing storage for Sun Microsystems.

At the end of June, Sun will cease to OEM Hitachi’s high-end storage systems. Oracle, which now owns Sun, indicated in January it would focus instead on Sun’s Open 7000 offerings.

Sun had sold Hitachi product in New Zealand with a five-year, prepaid maintenance option.
