In July trans-Tasman distributor Altech will launch a range of notebooks locally from Taiwan-based manufacturer Activo.
The distributor will take the PCs to market through specialist resellers rather than mass merchants, with product manager Jing Jin saying the company knows it needs to set itself apart in the notebook space.
“As a new brand, we know we have to do something different from others to survive in this market. We aim to offer the highest possible specifications with the lowest possible price.”
Altech introduced Activo in Australia late last year, with Jin saying it has sold more than 2000 notebooks there through the channel.
The company will be releasing three models here, including the AV-1002, EV-5000 and GV-5000.
Jin says the AV-1002 is a new release that features a faster CPU and the Windows 7 operating system.
The distributor also plans to expand its local headcount due to increased business.
Marketing manager Maricel Abraham says the company is looking to double its premises by the end of the year, with current personnel totalling 15.
