Vantex adds Ingenico with Skyzer Technologies deal

Ingram Micro division Vantex has inked a partnership with payment systems vendor Skyzer Technologies, under which it will distribute Ingenico’s range of Eftpos terminals and hardware.

Auckland-based Skyzer has a local software development and testing capability, hardware and technical support facilities, and local sales and marketing support. It already offers the Ingenico product line.

Vantex division general manager Steve Marson says the combination of Ingenico terminals and Skyzer software are a “great upgrade path” for local retailers who need to meet compliance requirements by the end of May next year, before the start of the Rugby World Cup.

Ingram Micro managing director Gary Bigwood says resellers can get “the best of both worlds” with the new partnership.

“They have the access to a complete point-of-sale solution from Ingram Micro’s Vantex division, backed up by the Vantex team’s many years of experience in the retail market and supported by Ingram Micro’s extensive infrastructure. This is combined with Skyzer’s local development, testing and support facilities, backed by the company’s expertise.”

Skyzer’s resellers will now have Ingenico terminals as part of a bundled POS offering from Ingram Micro, says Skyzer Technologies’ managing director Darren Parker.

As part of Visa’s efforts to counter credit card fraud, it is incorporating secure chips into its cards. The card provider’s security efforts have been prompted by the global EMV (Europay, Mastercards and Visa) chip card standards.

By January, Skyzer had gained two certifications for Ingenico for EMV compliance with Paymark’s Eftpos network terminal specification version 6.0. Paymark says bank dispensation will be required for the deployment of payment devices certified below version 6.0.

Skyzer says its Eftpos terminals are capable of processing cards with secure chips, while Eftpos New Zealand Limited (ENZ), which runs one of the local Eftpos networks, has certified of Skyzer’s terminal software for its network.

“The Ingenico range of terminals utilises software developed by Skyzer in New Zealand which supports both the Paymark and Eftpos NZ networks,” says Marson.

Skyzer and Ingenico’s hardware and software support third party applications such as mobile phone top-ups, and gift and loyalty cards.
