Former HP imaging and printing group country manager Daryn Rickwood has joined Samsung as head of sales for consumer electronics and IT.
Rickwood says his blend of experience was the main reason for taking up the role.
“Samsung is one of the few vendors that can do the whole gamut across whiteware, televisions, video, netbooks and printers.
“I’m one of the few people that has experience of both sides of the business [consumer electronics and IT].”
He adds he will be working with IT retailers and resellers he has worked with in his previous roles, but will also now work with consumer electronics specialists.
Rickwood has extensive experience in consumer IT sales. He joined HP in 2007 and was its New Zealand consumer sales manager.
He was also the consumer business manager at Microsoft from 2005 to 2007.
Rickwood began his career in the consumer retail market in 1995 in a sales role at Bond and Bond. He has also completed short stints at Minolta and JVC distributor Hagemeyer.
He has recruited five staff to the Samsung sales team recently, and says the vendor will also work with IT distributor Ingram Micro to deal with retailers and resellers locally.
Rickwood’s role is one of many the vendor has been seeking to fill as part of a local recruitment drive.
At the beginning of the year it said the company would increase staff numbers here from 30 to more than 50.
Other than the head of sales for consumer electronics and IT, the vendor’s vacant positions were in product management, sales and business development.
Rickwood was replaced as HP’s imaging and printing group manager by Hamish Alexander.
