Revera expands hosted infrastructure offering

Revera has added IBM’s AIX operating system capacity to its infrastructure-as-a-service platform for businesses wanting enterprise applications on a utility basis.

The upgrade was prompted by Revera’s five-year utility infrastructure deal with Hamilton-based company Livestock Improvement (LIC), which was signed in 2008. The move to IBM enabled the migration of LIC’s SAP production platform to Revera’s Albany datacentre.

The second of two IBM P6 Power 570 servers — collectively a million-plus dollar investment — resides in Revera’s Hamilton datacentre, hosting LIC’s testing and development environment, and providing site failover should the Auckland platform fail.

LIC senior executive IT John Crane says the company’s legacy infrastructure upgrade is part of an on-going transformation programme.

“A pure utility model gives us scalable capacity for the next phase of LIC’s SAP extension and provides a level of performance we couldn’t have achieved with our legacy infrastructure,” he says.
