In-house staff sought after for IT advice

In house IT managers and staff were a more popular source of advice than resellers among respondents in a recent survey commissioned by leasing firm Equico. According to the survey, 72 percent of respondents said in-house staff were their source of advice, while technology service providers represented 57 percent, own research representing 50 percent and technology resellers 34 percent. However, the technology service provider was more likely to be referred to for advice by those in the manufacturing sector (63 percent), those in medium businesses (67 percent), those leasing ICT equipment (69 percent), and those considering hosted or cloud-based ICT in their next upgrade (67 percent). The survey also found ICT investment was not being deferred by 71 percent of businesses, despite challenging economic conditions. “Looking forward, businesses have reaffirmed the importance of having the right ICT tools, with three quarters saying that their ICT budgets would remain the same or increase, with the majority of the investment going into computers and servers,” says Equico managing director Paul Beattie. The survey canvassed 281 local businesses in August.
