Security vendor Sophos will retain a New Zealand office and one staffer here, despite a global round of redundancies that will see 80 jobs go.
Sophos Asia-Pacific managing director Rob Forsyth says the company’s Auckland office will be retained, with a staff of one, a channel-focused employee.
However, a staffer in a different role resigned recently, and that role won’t be replaced during the company’s current financial year, which ends next April, Forsyth says.
While the company is still achieving year-on-year growth, some internal targets have not been met, “so we have modified our cost base”, he says.
New Zealand “continues to be a good product market for us”, he says.
Most of the 80 job losses will be in the US, with a Sophos facility in Ohio to be closed.
