E-Datainsurance (e-Di) , a recently launched company here, has local and Asia Pacific growth in its sights.
The company has secured an agreement to become Asia Pacific distributor and territory channel manager for UK-headquartered Data Insurance, which has a branch in Auckland. Data Insurance insures businesses against data loss.
E-Di is the latest venture by Nik Key, the former channel manager for Renaissance Indemnity, and former director at Data Insure.
Key says e-Di only sells through the channel and has expansion plans for its reseller base here.
As managing director of e-Di, Key says he still has interests in Data Insure, but is otherwise not involved in the business. “Data Insure is a reseller, in fact, our top reseller at the moment,” he says.
“Data Insurance [the vendor e-Di is distributing for] has gone from strength to strength over the past six months and specifically the end of last year. Sales [were] up 20 percent in December - which can be a quiet month,” says Key.
E-Di is also “looking at developing solutions for the whole lifecycle of business critical data as required by the Public Records Act [creation, maintenance, versioning, archiving and then disposal]", Key adds.
“Data Insurance is also being embedded into ERP, accounting and financial solutions, insuring and automating the backup and restore capabilities of these critical data systems. We also have other embedding projects aimed at delivering solutions to the health and other regulated sectors where critical data needs to be safe, secure and available,” he says.
Reseller News reported last March that Data Insure was looking to recruit resellers and at the time had signed Eagle Technologies as a Technical Alliance partner for the enterprise market.
E-Di is a subsidiary of Eagle Technology, which is also a reseller for Data Insurance, in the corporate market. “I took the opportunity to Eagle and they accepted it,” says Key. The distributor is based in Eagle’s offices in Auckland.
According to Sarah Macdonald, Eagle Technology's marketing coordinator, the company saw e-Di as an exciting opportunity, saying, "no-one else is offering anything like that in the market".
