EMC debuts new partner tier with VNXe product

The local division of IT solutions provider EMC is rolling out an addition to its existing partner programme, in support of the introduction of the VNXe unified storage platform.

EMC launched the new Affiliate Tier to the Velocity Partner Programme as the VNXe solution, which was announced in January, was made available in the second week of March.

Certain details of the new programme remain to be worked out. However, EMC representatives say the Affiliate Tier is designed to make the VNXe product “accessible” to partners of all sizes, initially with an application process to get them to become EMC resellers, followed by minimal, self-paced training to attain VNXe certification.

“The partner programme has only been nailed-down in the last couple of weeks,” says Arron Patterson, chief technology officer for EMC New Zealand. “We need to take some of those global initiatives to make sure they are a fit for New Zealand and appropriate for the channel here.”

EMC will also offer training to existing partners under what it refers to as the partner “Mega Tour,” a half-day event the company runs through distributor Datastor.

EMC’s January announcement of the launch of VNXe – and the VNX series, for businesses scaling up to datacentre-class solutions – was part of a much larger, 40-product roll-out in three continents. (Patterson says this country was the first in the world to see the VNX series come to market.)

VNXe is a storage platform marketed to the SMB community, with an interface designed for what Cisco calls the “IT generalist” at companies too small to have a dedicated IT staff.

“With the IT generalist interface, users interact with the system as if it were the server and that is unique to the VNXe class,” says Patterson.

“Taking that enterprise class technology down to the SMB business place.”

EMC’s vendor partners worldwide include Cisco and VMware. The company also has a global distribution arrangement with Datastor.
